Blues for Willie, a
concert March 7, 2014, held by the Columbus Arts Council - Rosenzweig Arts Center, Mississippi to commemorate the fifth anniversary of King’s last earthly performance there. He died the next day. The
Blues for Willie concert, was an awesome celebration of the One Love Willie gave so freely to all! Drawing on some of the truest traditions of southern Blues and filling the room with soul were
Clarence Davis on guitar, Albert Billups on the drums, "Birmingham" George Conner on guitar and Jock Webb Sr. on harmonica,. These are some of the last remaining area bluesmen. All played Willie
King’s Freedom Creek Festival on several occasions, so it was fitting they played for this anniversary concert. Birmingham George and Jock Webb played on King’s first CD , Walkin’ the Walk, Talkin’
the Talk. Webb also played on “Birmingham” George’s Musicmaker’s released CD Brothers Tone.Conner lived in Chicago for many years and recorded for
Rev. Houston Harrington’s Atomic H label as “George Corner.” Clarence “Bluesman” Davis is a local legend in his own right. Born in Eutaw, Alabama, 68 year old Davis writes and plays original
authentic, down home, southern juke joint blues. Albert Billups has for years been the areas “go to” blues drummer having played with King, Davis, “Birmingham” George, Shar Baby and many
others.
