Jeanette “JNet” Jarmon has a diversity of styles and sizes which she uses to paint realistically, abstractly and non-objectively. Her subjects are landscapes, flowers, portraits of people and pets with a spattering of who-knows-what added in. With an awareness of the Elements of Art and Principles of Design from her years of teaching, she creates technical but creative pieces. Many of her pieces would define her as a colorist as she explores color and color mixing. Painting with brushes to palette knives, she has even painted with an old sock. She loves painting large but often grabs a little canvas for a quick study.
Jeanette has painted murals for private home and received grants from the City of Jackson and the City of Clinton to paint in public spaces. Two of her murals are in the Blair Batson Children’s Hospital. With her first federal block grant from the Department of Human Services she worked with Mississippi Educational Television and created a 12- PART television series called THE CREATIVE CHILD used for care-givers to earn continuing Educational Units. It won an educational award at the International Film and Video Festival in Columbus, Ohio. A grant from the Federal Justice Department in conjunction with the Mississippi Museum of Art and California’s William James Association allowed her to be Artist in Residence at the Yazoo City Federal Correctional Institute. She also headed the only children’s group in America for children of Vietnam Vets with PTSD at the Jackson Vet Center. As a licensed art teacher she shared art experiences with patients of all ages and diagnoses at Mississippi State Hospital, Whitfield.
She has taught in both public and private schools, served as adjunct professor for Mississippi College, Hinds Community College and lastly for Wayland Baptist University, Plainview, Texas, at their Kenya Campus. She paints where she is, either at home or on the road. Paintings while in Africa include portraits of locals and her “souvenir” painting of the zebras that she photographed while on safari.
Jeanette has a business called Art by JNet and has prints, cards, and art print pillows produced from her originals. These can be found in local stores in Columbus, Starkville, Louisville, Vicksburg and Clinton. Now living in Starkville, she has licensed pillow designs for MSU and is painting licensed cowbells for Bully Babies, an online store. She is available for private lessons in Drawing from Life, Perspective Drawing and Painting. She is receiving help for the business of Art through the Mississippi Small Business Development Program and soon the Entrepreneurship Program at MSU. Enjoy the show and watch her grow!
Tropical Fabric Design Ideas from Paintings from Costa Rica, Summer, 2012
Costa Rica offers lots of opportunity for a Tropical Series. I painted a total of 14 paintings while in Costa Rica for two weeks. Seven of those I left with much gratitude for Mr. Patillo and his hospitality. I painted landscapes, portraits and animals and more, but for me, I was much inspired with the little things... the kolancho plants near the gazebo, the oriole in the tree, the hybiscus growing in lush lines by the sea. I actually combined sea shells already collected and shown in the house with the actual beach to get the Sea Shells painting. And the Waves painting came from watching the waves, not actually one set time of watching the waves. The fabric process includes the computer to manipulate the photograph of the painting. Then an America company processes the manipulation and prints the samples. At that point, I order the printed fabric. I can use another company on the coast of California to make the fabric weather-resistant. I am attempting to create a fabric line that is made in America-- from start to finish--even though I may use trips across the world as inspiration.
Jeanette has been able to make some of her paintings into pillows. These, and more, will be for sale during her show.
