Possum Town Quilters Artist Statement
The vision of three local women created the Possum Town Quilters in February of 2007. Since that time, the group has grown to approximately thrity-two active members. The mission of the Possum Town Quilters is to promote quilting and learn new and old techniques in this early American art form. In order to promote this goal, the quilters have demonstrations, workshops, and guest lecturers every other Saturday at the Rosenzweig Arts Center.
Creating charity quilts is one of the primary objectives of the Possum Town Quilters and in total, they have sewn and donated nineteen quilts to Habitat for Humanity. Each year, the Possum Town Quilters create a quilt for the Rosenzweig Arts Center from their challenge blocks project. This year, viewers can vote on their favorite block during the show, and the quilt will be completed and auctioned or raffled during the annual spring gala.
