So & So Set

Adult Art Classes

Classes

Introducing the Columbus Art Council's new adult art series, the So & So Set. The classes will meet on the second Tuesday of each month from 6 to 8 p.m. Each class is $25 dollars with individual supply fees; sign up for all 5 and pay only $123 - that's one class for free! Participants must be at least 21 years of age, we will card. We will not provide any alcohol, you must bring your own, but we WILL provide cheese, crackers, fruit, etc., and any ice you may require.

August 12: Bottles & Brushes with Mysti Guthery

Bring a bottle of your favorite wine and make a fun painting on 16''x20'' canvas. Participants are encouraged to make the image being taught, but alternative personal inspiration will not be forbidden (you can make a different painting if you'd like).

September 9: Trash & Treasure with Britney Frazier

Don't be afraid to get your hands dirty in this down to earth mosaic class. Each participant will get to make and take home a crafty stepping stone. Some drying time means your stone won't be garden ready for a couple days, but it is worth the wait! We suggest bringing bottled beverages, such as ales, cider, or beer, to keep your drink as clean as possible.

October 14: Sip & Slip with Catherine Borer

Slip is watered down, workable clay. It can be mixed with pigment to make bright, fun colors without needing a glaze. Use this method with Catherine to make beautiful ceramic tiles. Due to the nature of clay, there will be a three week drying/firing period before you can take your tile home, we apologize for the inconvenience. To celebrate the harvest season, sip on a fruity drink made from pears, pumpkins, apples, etc.

November 11: Pods & Pom with Jacquelyn Junkins

Discover how fun palm pods can be when you turn them in to brightly colored fish decorations! We believe this simple yet inspiring project will go swimmingly with a pomegranate martini.

December 9: Mimosas & Monet with Deborah Mansfield

Beat the brown of winter with a warm, coloful Monet imitation painting. Put your impression of Monet's work on a 16''x20'' canvas while enjoying a tasty mimosa with friends.

The Big Read

We and our project partners are excited to invite our community to join in "The Big Read" kicking off this month and continuing into March. Our focus book, Thornton Wilder's "The Bridge of San Luis Rey" is a great American classic
which won Wilder his first Pulitzer Prize in 1928. Since it's first printing in 1927, the book has NEVER been out of print! The story is well written, immersing us into Peruvian culture and creating fascinating character studies--all in a fairly short read.
For more information follow this link
"The Big Read" is a grant program established by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA)
in 2006 in response to studies reflecting the sad rapid decline of reading in America.
The program was developed to provide organizations with the means to develop community
wide reading programs. Through the focus on one book, we can encourage community
reading, discussion and participation amongst diverse audiences. From this we can all
come together to learn about the worlds encompassed in one story, and hopefully encourage
a renewed interest in reading.
