Life can seem full of chaos. I strive for structure and meaning in my daily routine, whether it’s by designing and executing a large complex painting or by organizing and scheduling a feature film. While it’s very much a necessity, this structure can sometimes cloud the artist’s mind. It can often stifle the purity of one’s creativity. In these drawings I have made an effort to strip the artistic process down to its core. Just as I did as a child, I walk into the wilderness armed with nothing more than a pencil and a pad. While on these journeys I wait for something to call out to me.
When an object of nature makes itself known to me I simply sit with it for a while and create an image. I observe the intricacies of its imperfections and the beautiful randomness that is nature.
These drawings represent my artwork without the complications of daily life. They bring me nothing but joy in the satisfaction of creating, while spending time with God’s very own creation.
