About Nancy Scott
I was born in Los Angeles, California, in 1941. After many moves, near and far, I have come to Columbus, Mississippi as it is the place that I have always wanted to be.
My art was described by one reviewer as "Childlike paintings with adult messages." I am self-taught and started painting in 1978 after a horrible automobile accident left me unable to do much else while I recovered.
My work has been shown in California, New Hampshire, Arizona and Colorado. I have received several awards as well as donated art to help homeless women in Low Angeles and also to Project Angel Food which feeds AIDS patients.
In 1995 I was awarded 1st place in the "Art for Awareness" art show and was exhibited at the Senate-Hart Building in Washington D.C. as well as at the state capitol building in Denver, Colorado.
In 1994 I received a Recognition Award of $4,000 funded by the National Endowment of the Arts and the Colorado Council on the Arts.
Works were reviewed by a panel of curators from the Museum of Modern Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the University of Arizona, and was a statewide competition for Colorado artists.
I was represented in a gallery setting for 6 years in Durango, Colorado. After leaving Colorado, I stopped painting. Now that I am settled here in Mississippi, I have decided to return to making art and I am having fun doing it.
