Rebecca Carson - "Wild Emotions"

Artist Statement

My artwork takes a fun, semi-animated view of sea life, cityscapes and other amazing views. In my work, I deconstruct from reality, and find a new way of showing the world through my eyes. Having put subjects together from the most modern sites to the untouched depths of the sea, my work shows imagination to the fullest using three different mediums: paint, wax, and string, and arranging them into new and different pieces.

Often times these themes are different from others, but I'm my own way they are all connected by color, lines, subject matter, places, shapes, and more.

Biography

My art is all about the world as I see it, warped in some way, with different colors or even different textures. When I first started doing art, I was just a kid with a few watercolors and crayons to work with. My parents always said I was going to make an artist one day, later in life I learned more about art and the history behind it. I had fallen in love and wanted to start a career. When I got to college age I started doing photography studies at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. I thought this would be a good thing to do and maybe even make a career out of it, until one day I got sick and had seizures every other hour or so it seemed. The stress of school was just too much, so I had to drop out. I fell back into the world of art and started painting again, more and more every day, and the next thing I knew, I was in love with art again. I tried new types of art; some worked, some didn't, some are in this exhibit. Some are string art, oils, and acrylics, watercolors and waxes. Soon I found that I had too many paintings in my room, and not enough space to live, so I started to look for places where I could sell and show off my art. I found a few gigs here and there to show my art. This is my path! I see the world in many colors and textures with many waves and lines.
